Dr. Carl MaultsBy
Since 2013, Dr. Carl MaultsBy has served as the Director of Music/Organist, where he leads the Schola of St. Richard’s and the St. Richard’s Youth Ensemble. He also oversees the St. Richard’s Handbell Ringers. Under MaultsBy’s direction, the Schola, in addition to singing at the regular 10:30 a.m. Sunday mass, performed at the 2014-2016 Diocese of Central Florida Absalom Jones Celebrations, 2013 Rollins College Canterbury Club Evensong and with the Valencia Singers at the Valencia College 2016 “A Winter Choral Concert.” For the 60th anniversary of St. Richard’s Church, he led a combined choir of the St. Richard’s Schola, the Singers of the Cathedral Church of St. Luke, and the Valencia Singers in a concert of Sacred Jazz that included a performance of MaultsBy’s “Praise: A Sacred Jazz Te Deum.” He founded the St. Richard’s Youth Ensemble (SRYE) for singers ages 9-18. SRYE sings periodically throughout the church year and participated in the 2016 Diocese of Central Florida Youth Choir Festival.
Prior to spearheading the music program at St. Richard’s, MaultsBy served as Director of Music of the Churches of St. Mark Episcopal, Brooklyn, NY; St. Mary’s Episcopal, Brooklyn, NY; St. Paul’s Episcopal, Patterson, NJ; St. Andrew’s Catholic, Orlando, FL; First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, NY. In addition, he was Director of Music Ministries, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Washington, DC; Assistant Organist & Director of Good News Ensemble, St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, New York, NY; and Director of the Abyssinian Baptist Church Chancel Choir, New York, NY. He studied organ with Michael Corzine (Florida State University), Steven Emprin and Edna Sampson Hargrett-Thrower.
A member of the 2003-2009 Episcopal Church Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music, MaultsBy’s “St. Mary’s Mass” is published in
