ADULT

There will soon  be 2 Adult Sunday school Offerings. Our ongoing education schedule is listed here and then a  description of the second offering, “Stages of Religious Consciousness”  (beginning on Feb.22) follows below.

Adult Education – January to Easter 2015

The adult education committee has planned an interesting and varied program for Sunday mornings from the beginning of January through Easter.  We meet Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in the Parish All, and the topic for each week is presented below.  We will learn about new technology that can produce great good or produce great evil, even threaten our existence.  We will learn about people and organizations who do, or have done, God’s work in the world.

February 8 – Ethics Continued

This week Bonnie will present the final installment of her discussion of technology and ethics.

February 15 – The Knights Templar

Elenita Brodie will talk about the Knights Templar.  There is much is a lot of history, legend, and tradition associated with them but what is the truth?  The Templars started with a military charter and evolved into a politically and economically powerful organization that was ultimately betrayed.  It is a fascinating story!

February 22 – The Hospitaller Knights

Kathleen Cresswell will talk about the Hospitaller Knights.  It was founded to provide care for poor, sick or injured pilgrims to the Holy Land.  Modern organizations can trace their heritage back to the Hospitallers, and like the Templars, the story of the Hositallers is fascinating.

March 1 and 8 – C. S. Lewis

C. S. Lewis went from a non-believer to one of the greatest Christian apologists of the 20th century.  He was a prolific writer and most of us are familiar with some of his works like The Screwtape Letters, and The Chronicles of Narnia.  During these two weeks we will see a two-part video about C. S. Lewis, known as “Jack” to his friends.

March 15 – St. Patrick’s Day

Terry Duffy will talk about St. Patrick and St. Patrick’s Day.   It is sure to be a presentation that can only be given by an Irishman!

March 22 – Clara Barton and Florence Nightingale

Kathy Anderson will talk about Clara Barton, the founder of the American Red Cross, and Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.  Their efforts led to more humane treatment of people wounded or captured in battle.

March 29 – William Booth

Kathy Anderson will talk about William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army.  We all have heard about the Salvation Army and the work they do for the poor, but what do we really know?  Kathy will tell us the history of the Salvation Army from William Booth to the present day.

Easter – No Adult Education
