"Rehearing the Words of Jesus in Matthew's Gospel"

Over the next several months we will reconsider the words of Jesus as they appear in the canonical Gospel of Matthew. Personal discovery will be the aim of our next careful reading of New Testament teaching. Underpinning a new English rendering, we will examine vocabulary, social settings, historical backgrounds, literary features, theological highlights, and other questions that arise. Reading the words of Jesus through Sarah Ruden’s gospel translation will open new perspectives of understanding and opportunities for faith and service.

Two sources are recommended for your own reading and research. These are "The Gospels," a new translation by Sarah Ruden, and "Gospel Parallels; A Comparison of the Synoptic Gospels" (New Revised Standard Version).
